Explore Philadelphia through a photographic lens!

Follow myself or Mimi Janosy through Philadelphia as we teach you camera fundamentals and share our favorite locations to shoot. We will provide you with inside knowledge catered towards honing your style, working with outside light, and creating impactful photographs.

As native Philadelphia photographers, we were motivated to create an adventurous way for visitors, locals, and photography enthusiasts to capture our beautiful home, while also educating them about photography and guiding them through Philadelphia with a photographer’s mindset.

Phil Kramer Photo Excursion Silhouette of Camera and Graffiti

We are in love with our city and want to show it off!

Our photo excursions are fun and easy-going for newcomers and advanced amateurs. It is our mission to grow the photographic community in Philadelphia, so we view this as an opportunity to expand our knowledge and inspire the creative expression through photography.

It’s exciting to meet new people who share an interest in photography. We want to help you develop your skills through discussion-based learning, while also providing an entertaining adventure in the city.

We are formally educated in photography, so that is our primary focus during these photo excursions. These excursions do not provide dense information about Philadelphia’s historical landmarks.

We know interesting facts about a few spots in Philadelphia because we’ve lived here for a long time, but we do not consider ourselves experts in this field. Photo excursions are dedicated to teaching photography with Philadelphia as our background.

During the photo excursion, you are required to bring:

· A digital SLR camera.

· The owner’s manual.

· Extra fully-charged batteries.

· A media card (minimum of 8GB)

A tripod is recommended, but not required.

After our first discussion together, we will provide you with a printed pamphlet to remind you of basic controls and tips. We encourage you to use your time productively by asking a lot of questions and snapping well-thought-out photographs.

We love adventures that take us beyond our borders!

We have years of experience photographing portraits, engagements and weddings all throughout Philadelphia, and because of this, we know how to effectively capture this space.

We offer five different route options in Philadelphia. Together, we will concentrate on exploring one of them for the entire excursion:

· Old City

In addition to operating our business here, Old City’s greenspace and historical landmarks like Elfreth’s Alley and Independence Hall provide an old-fashioned, yet charming background for photography.

We will begin with an overview of camera fundamentals at our studio on 227 Quarry Street before leaping into Philadelphia’s most historical section, exploring brick roads, traversing the greenspace and cutting through cobblestone roads.

· Penn’s Landing and South Street

This excursion begins at Penn’s Landing for a quick tutorial on camera fundamentals and wraps along Front Street, dips into Society Hill, and finishes ten blocks into South Street. South Street contrasts Lombard Street’s dim-lit, cozy neighborhood atmosphere. South Street is famous for its edginess, diverse cultures, and vibrant murals. Every block of South Street is a goldmine for photography.

For this, we will meet at I-95 Park, which is located at Front & Chestnut Street. After a quick introduction and discussion, we will swing down Penn’s Landing and work our way through South Street.

· The Pennsylvania Convention Center and Chinatown

An excursion to this district provides you with the opportunity to capture the neon-grunge of Chinatown’s streets, the grandeur of its famous friendship arch, and the carousel at Franklin Square.

This class will meet at our business location at 227 Quarry Street in Old City where we will discuss photography basics before walking to Chinatown from Arch Street and finishing at Franklin Square.

· Water Works, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Rodin Museum, and Logan Circle

There is endless beauty to capture in the architecture of The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Rodin Museum, The Franklin Institute, and The Barnes Foundation. This area is a photogenic spot in Philadelphia with its spacious greenspaces, few skyscrapers and pronounced architecture.

We will meet at the Water Works gazebo closest to the Fairmont Dam (or the small water) before climbing the Art Museum steps for a beautiful view of the Philadelphia skyline and then making our way toward Logan Circle.

· Love Park, City Hall, Broad Street and Rittenhouse Square

The center sidewalk at Broad Street is one of the most popular spots for portrait Photography in Philadelphia, so we will educate you on how to shoot here. This is a populated area, so there is a lot of photograph.

This excursion begins at Love Park for a tutorial on camera fundamentals. After this quick tutorial, we will explore City Hall, South Broad Street, and finish at Rittenhouse Square.

All digital SLR excursions are 3 hours long are a flat fee of $150 per student. We offer a morning class from 9:00AM—12:00PM and an afternoon class from 4:00PM—7:00PM. Each class has a 10-person maximum.
